Human-Focused Polling with Proof of Humanity (PoH)

This proposal introduces a polling system within Renzo governance that leverages Proof of Humanity (PoH) to ensure that only verified humans participate. The goal is to gather authentic, Sybil-proof feedback on proposals and early-stage ideas before they go to formal voting.

This system will enhance governance by:

  1. Amplifying the voices of real community members.
  2. Reducing the influence of bots or Sybil attacks on decision-making.
  3. Offering a transparent mechanism for gauging genuine sentiment in the community.

Overview

The current Renzo governance process relies heavily on token-based voting, which, while effective, is vulnerable to manipulation by entities with disproportionate token holdings or automated bots. By introducing human-verified polling, the protocol can:

  • Establish a layer of trust and authenticity in feedback collection.
  • Provide a platform for gauging community sentiment before proposals are finalised.

This system would function as a layer, providing input to proposal authors and token holders while maintaining token-based decision-making as the final authority.

Motivation

  • Combat Sybil Attacks: PoH ensures that only verified humans participate, reducing manipulation.
  • Enhance Inclusivity: Gives equal weight to all human participants, regardless of token holdings.
  • Improve Proposal Quality: Proposal authors can refine ideas based on authentic feedback before they enter formal voting.
  • Community Trust: Builds confidence that governance decisions reflect genuine sentiment, not the influence of a few.

Implementation

  1. Poll Creation
  • A “Human Poll” feature will be added to the Renzo governance interface.
  • Polls can be created by proposal authors or community members to seek feedback on new ideas.
  1. PoH Integration
  • Users must link their PoH identity to their Renzo account to participate in polls.
  • Each verified human gets one vote per poll, ensuring equality.
  1. Feedback Loop
  • Poll results will be displayed publicly with a breakdown of sentiment.
  • Proposal authors can use this data to refine and update their submissions.
  1. Optional Weighting System
  • Optional weighting could be applied based on engagement levels (e.g., verified users with consistent participation in governance get slightly higher weighting).
  1. Transparency Measures
  • Poll results and participation data will be published on-chain to ensure transparency.

Potential Challenges & Solutions

  1. Challenge: Onboarding new users to PoH.
  • Solution: Partner with PoH to host onboarding campaigns or offer incentives (e.g., small token rewards for first-time verification).
  1. Challenge: Resistance from token holders who prioritise capital-based governance.
  • Solution: Emphasise that polling is advisory and non-binding, complementing token-based decision-making.
